Apple may be purging widget apps from the App Store, but that hasn’t deterred PXL Creations from releasing DashPad–a Web-based widget app for the iPad that requires no approval from Apple.

While Apple has lately appeared to have improved its App Store approval process, there are still some decidedly rough edges. Take the case of MyFrame, a digital photo frame app for the iPad: the program was removed from the App Store this week for somewhat murky reasons, according to the developer.

A survey from ComScore tried to figure out how people will use Apple’s iPad, and found the most enthusiasm for browsing the Web and checking e-mail. Downloading apps from the App Store and playing intense video games such as first-person shooters were among the least popular potential uses.

Another handful of popular apps has disappeared from the App Store. But this time, the decision appears to have been made by the developer and not Apple.
